Research Interest:
Trust is the cornerstone of effective care in both human and veterinary medicine. RelationshipCentered Care (RCC), a concept rooted in human healthcare, focuses on mutual respect, empathy, and collaborative decision-making within the practitioner-client relationship. Applying RCC principles to veterinary practice enhances trust between veterinarians and clients, creating a partnership that benefits both animal health and client satisfaction. This presentation explores the parallels between RCC in human medicine and its application in veterinary settings, emphasizing the shared goals of improving communication, addressing emotional dynamics, and fostering informed decision-making. Through the lens of the One Medicine approach, we highlight how these principles bridge the gap between human and animal care, uniting both fields under a shared commitment to relationship-driven practice. Drawing on evidence from human and veterinary studies, participants will gain practical insights into strategies for active listening, delivering difficult news compassionately, and co-creating care plans that respect client priorities and medical expertise. By prioritizing trust and collaboration, veterinarians can strengthen client relationships, enhance compliance, and improve outcomes. This session underscores the role of RCC as a unifying framework for building deeper connections across species and professions, advancing the shared goals of the veterinary and human medical fields. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to implement RCC in practice, ensuring a future where trust remains central to care.
